What the F---?!

Pardon the seemingly potty-mouthed blog title... It's not what you think! Today I'm writing about fonts. Yep, that all important signature that sets the tone for a wedding invitation. A font can say, "I'm beautiful and elegant, and my wedding will dazzle you!", or, "This is going to be a lighthearted, whimsy-filled affair that you simply don't want to miss!"

After spending WAY too many hours on myfonts.com, saving fonts to WAY too may albums, and culling my list by removing fonts then adding the same ones back again (smart, eh?) , I've finally found the one. The one I'm going to use for the invitations, anyway. After purchasing the unique and fun Veloute, I changed my mind about it-- too busy. So yesterday I settled on Sloop. I like it. It's very "sloopy" (One of my personal albums is in fact named "sloopy", and another one "swashy").

I decided to go with a sloopy font instead of a swashy one because the wedding will be ocean themed, and one of my hand-drawn invitation concepts has ocean waves. Sloop just goes. It's apparently named for a type of sailboat, and it's very sleek, leaning forward as if cutting through choppy waves. It doesn't have a lot of embellishment (swashes). That's ok-- as pretty as those fonts are, they aren't me.

Yesterday was R's birthday. He's 15 years older than I am, but I told him he doesn't look a day over 37, and it's true. He takes very good care of himself. After work I stopped at Target for a few grocery items and a card, and guess what I found?! Cute imprintable wedding invitations, originally approx. $20 for a box of 25, on clearance for less than $5 each! What an amazing deal! So I rounded up all four remaining boxes. The wedding is going to be small (probably less than 50 people), but I'm a hoarder by nature so I couldn't leave the extras behind. Nevermind that the invites are the wrong color, the wrong theme (they have flowers on them), and not the style I had in mind. For good measure, I also grabbed all the clearance bridal shower invitations and wedding themed thank-you cards. Please note, these were also the wrong color and something I wouldn't have EVER chosen at full retail price. Insanity! I'll probably end up returning everything.
